ÖHD calls on for the death fasts: Government should act now

	ANKARA - ÖHD Co-chair Ayşe Acinikli who evaluated the death fast decision of the prisoners,stating that ignoring the lawful demands has irreversable consequences, said: "The only solution is the government to act now."

	The prisoners who upped their hunger strike to a higher level demanding the termination of the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, announced that they will start a death fast on April 30.Lawyers for Freedom Platform Co-chair Ayşe Acinikli who takes place in the Monitoring Hunger Strikes Commission and sittng in on meetings with the political parties made evaluations.

	 

	Acinikli who stated that the situation will only get worse unless the government take immediate action, said: "Death fast stage is a stage we do not want to consider or accept.But the will of the prisoners chose that.We can not intervene. Th eonly solution is the government to act immeadiately.But the government did not even commented on the hunger strikes yet. We had a meeting with AKP Group Deputy Chairman. He stated that he will deal with the matter and convey the message to the authorities but that he does think they will back down from it."

	 

	Acinikli who stated that the hunger strikes have reached a very critical theshold by itself, said: "Ignoring the lawful demands has irreversable consequences.We want the government to act as soon as possible. We are trying to make them be heard by calling on to the non governmental organizations and law organizations.Death fast is something we do not want and we will keep working for a solution. The government should act before tragedies happen."
