Prohibition of communication and visitation in prisons in İzmir and Manisa 2019-03-16 11:18:42 İZMİR- TUHAYDER Aegean Co-chair Selma Altan said prisoners in İzmir and Manisa Prisons are being punished with prohibitions of communication and visitation. The hunger strike Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Leyla Güven started with the demand of the termination of the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan have left behind 129 days.The hunger strike of the political prisoners began on December 16,2018 have spreaded to all prisons as of March 1.   Aegaen region Solidarity and Mutual Society with Prisoners and COnvicts Families (TUHAYDER) Co-chair Selma Altan, shared information regarding the hunger striker prisoners in İzmir and Manisa Prisons.     PROHIBITION OF COMMUNICATION AND VISITATION   Altan who reminded that the prisoners are demanding a way of breaking the isolation, stated that the health conditions of the prisoners exceeded the critical threshold.Altan who stated that some of the prisoners are experiencing loss of consciousness, sight and hearing, said: "As of 1st of March all prisoners except the ones taking care of the hunger strikers and the sick prisoners joined the hunger strike. And after that the oppression on the prisoners sky rocketed. The radios have been confiscated and the means of communication was prohibited by Kırıklar Type F Prison. New Life Newspaper is not being given to prisoners since March 1. Other newspapers comes cencored or cut.Penalty system is being applied on the hunger strikers. They are being prohibited from visitation and communication as well as being put in to sloitary confinement.There are limitations in books."     Altan who stated that they have gone to the parliament on March 6 with 15 prisoner families from İzmir, said they could not get an appointment from the Minister of Justice.Altan who stated that the current government is turning a blind eye on the hunger strikers, said: "We are calling on to all public and the non-governmental institutions for solidarity."
