Artists and intellectuals call for Güven: Its not the hunger that kills, it is the silence 2019-02-25 12:42:18   NEWS DESK- Artists and intellectuals who wants the demand of Güven to be met, said: "Its not the hunger that kills, it is the silence".   The hunger strike initiated by Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair and People's Democratic Party (HDP) hakkari Deputy Leyla Güven with the demand of termination of the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan is on its 110th day.   The artists, writers, poets and intellectuals who spoke to Elif Aydoğmuş from Yeni Yaşam Newspaper, drew attention to the unlawfullness of the isolation and said: "The authorities need to defend the life of those people, not their death."    LEVENT ÜZÜMCÜ: THE AUTHORITIES SHOULD BE DEFENDING THEIR LIVES   Actor Levent Üzümcü said: " If there is a mass in a country that sees success in the death of the hunger strikers, everyone in that country should be ashamed of themselves. If someone is protesting something risking their lives on that way, the authorities needs to sit and think. The authorities need to defend the lives of those people, not their death."   ORHAN ALKAYA: IT INDICATES THE STATE BEING PURGED OFF THE LAW   Actor Orhan Alkaya: "Mrs. Leyla Güven is an elected deputy. She is a mere representative of the people. The fact that she started the hunger strike because she can not represent herself or her community in the parliament because the state is being purged off the law indicates a 'liceat statum'. However, if I could find this right in myself, I would bend down in front of Mrs. Leyla Güven and beg her to end this hunger strike. Because the people needs their representatives. It is my greatest wish that she lives."   BARBAROS LICENSE: THE FAIR LAW IS TO BE PROVIDED   Fashion designer Barbaros Şansal said: " In a land deprived of democracy and law, the resistance of the people like Leyla Güven gives a message. Isolation, torture, libel and autocracy cannot prevent the brotherhood and struggle of the peoples. The people who shield their bodies for the sake of tomorrow are once again revealing the dark mentality behind bombings, acid wells, operations of massacres, burned villages. The right to equal life must be provided. The fair law must be provided."   AHMET TELLİ: THIS IS THE LASTEST LETTERS OF THE RESISTANCE ALPHABET   Poet Ahmet Telli said: "Leyla Güven's hunger strike is a scream. Only conscience can hear this scream. If that conscience is deaf, the scream will not make it there. This hunger strike is the last point of resistance where its bordering death and it is the lastest letter of the resistance alphabet."   AHMERT ÜMİT: THERE MUST BE JUSTICE SO THAT NO ONE HAS TO SEEK IT AT THE COST OF THEIR LIVES   Writer Ahmet Ümit: The fact that people are going on hunger strikes at the cost of their lives is so sad and so bad. Therefore, there must be justice so that no one has to seek it at the cost of their lives."   METİN KAHRAMAN: THE HUNGER STRIKERS SHOULDN'T BE LEFT TO DIE   Actor Metin Kahraman said: "Leyla Güven is on a hunger strike for the anti democratic practices of this government. We are going through a rough period just as we did back in September 12. We can only live through this if we struggle against it. The hunger strikers shouldn't be left to die."    FÜSUN DEMİREL : THE DEMAND MUST BE DISCUSSED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE   Actress Füsun Demirel: ' Leyla Güven's hunger strike is truely very sad. The demand must be discussed as soon as possible."   MEM ARARAT: THE DEMAND MUST BE MET   Artist Mem Ararat said: " Undoubtedly, isolation is a dishonorable attitude, unworthy of human dignity. There is a necrotizing Kurdish problem. This hunger strike is a peaceful demonstration that has to be discussed. The authorities must listen and the demands must be met. That is my only wish."   DENİZ TÜRKALİ: ISOLATION IS AGAINST THE LAW   Actress Deniz Türkali said: " I am so upset. I don't want this hunger strike to continue. I love Leyla Güven very much. I want the isolation practice to be completely gone for good. It is against the law."   ÖZCAN ALPER: I WISH THIS VOICE BE HEARD   Director Özcan Alper said: "Leyla Güven have laid her body to hunger in order to stop the war and secure the peace as a human being, a mother, a parliamentarian. And despite all this, they are trying to silence her voice. I wish this voice be heard at once."   VEYSİ ALTAY: WE CAN NOT BE A PARTY IN THIS CRIME   Director Veysi Altay said: "The government is commiting the crime of isolation in a political way. To say stop to isolation is the responsibility of everyone who has a conscience. Imrali isolation has now turned into revenge and punishment for society. When we do not share the resistance of Leyla and her friends, it is clear that a possible death will be  our responsibility as much as the government's. We should not be partners in this crime."    MELDA ONUR: I AM INVITING THE GOVERNMENT TO HEAR THIS DEMAND   Former deputy Melda Onur said: "This is a demand of peace. The worst king of peace is better than no peace. The government should know that not meeting Güven's demand and pulling us into conflict will not help anything. I intive them to hear her demands at once."   FERHAT TUNÇ: WE MUST OWN THIS RESISTANCE WITH COURAGE   Artist Ferhat Tunç said: " The health conditions of Güven is worrying. So are the approximately 300 prisoners who are beyond critical period. This policy of isolations aims to destroy the humanly values of the people. This is why the hunger strikes are rightous. For this reason, artists should be more courageous. They must be in an effort to keep people alive. We must make their voices be heard."   İLKAY AKKAYA: PEOPLE SHOULD MAKE SOME NOISE   Artist İlkay Akkaya said: "In principle, you may be against a hunger strike, but no matter what happens, you should remember that life is sacred and that within this framework you should be pressuring the government to terminate this isolation. The hunger strike is now in very critical days.We must act now and make some noise."
