Detained journalist's hunger strike news confiscated 2019-01-10 12:27:55   KOCAELİ- The news article written by detained journalist Meltem Oktay regarding the hunger strikes was found 'undesirable' and confiscated.   The hunger strikes prisoners are doing for the termination of isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan is expanding. Hacer Halil Yusuf, Ruhşan Bozan, Özlem Özdemir, Ayten Gülsüm and Özlem Söyler are prisoners in Gebze Type M Women's Prison have started an indefinite non-rotating hunger strike on December 16, and still are in hunger strike. Meltem Oktay, a journalist staying in the same prison interviewed the prisoners and prepared a news article. Oktay's letter including the news article adressed to our agency was confiscated by the prison administration under the plea of being 'undesirable'.   Oktay, who explained what happened to her family in a phone call, told that the article included the feelings of the hunger strikers and nothing 'undesirable'. Oktay stated that she will make an official complaint about the confiscation.   WHO IS MELTEM OKTAY?   Meltem Oktay, reporter of Dicle News Agency which was closed down with a law decree, was taken under custody in Nusaybin where she was following up on a story in April 12, 2016. She was sentenced to 4 years of prison time with the charge 'Praising an illegal organization' and still is a prisoner in Gebze Type M Closed Prison.
