Health organizations: Allow independent physicians to go to prison 2019-01-02 15:33:04   MARDİN- The health organizations and public servants in Mardin, drew attention to the expanding hunger strikes in Turkey's prisons that are exceeding the crtical threshold and said: "We are emphasizing the need for the independent physicians to be allowed to see the hunger strikers in prisons."   Mardin Medical Chamber board member Tuncay Gökçen who underlined that each week the attendants to the hunger strike is increasing, said: " The hunger strikes expanding in every prison have exceeded the critical threshold in some prisons. The approach to a person in a hunger strike is a critical matter for the physician whose priority is to preserve the human life and honour. It requires a know how and an honourable attitude to be able to tell the hunger striker about the damage hunger can do to a body, to follow up on them daily and their treatment.   Gökçen who stated that Ministry of Justice must pay attention to the demands of the prisoners that are in hunger strike, said: "It is our duty to demand the necessary negotiations to end this hunger strike, which is initiated by prisoners and convicts despite the fact that hunger strike is not an action approved by physicians and defenders of the right to life. Again, it is our obligation to remind the Ministry of Justice to take steps in the direction of preventing deaths. We call upon those who are sensitive to human and human life, including politicians, to attempt to end hunger strikes. Whe emphasize that committees of independant physicians established by the Medical Chamber must be allowed into the prisons. It should be known that life is our first concern."
