Doctors standing trial: We defended the universal principles 2018-12-27 13:21:17   ANKARA- TTB Administrators who are standing trial today because of their statement saying:" War is a  public health problem", said that the war is not a law of nature and that they defended universal principles with their statement.     The trial that the members of the central committee(MK) of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) are being tried for saying 'War is a public health problem' during the operation against Efrin have started today.11 executives of TTB attended the first trial of the case that is being held in Ankara 32nd Criminal Court. The charges are 'Provoking the people to hatred and enmity' and 'Propaganda of an illegal organization'.     In addition to TTB members, CHP and HDP MPs, DİSK Chairperson Arzu Çerkezoğlu, EMEP Chairperson Selma Gürkan, KESK Co-Presidents Aysun Gezen and Mehmet Bozgeyik, TİHV President Şebnem Korur Fincancı, Halkevleri Co-Chairperson Dilşat Aktaş, HDK Spokesperson Onur Hamzaoğlu, İHD Co-Chairperson Öztürk Türkdoğan followed the trial. The heads of the Ankara, Mersin, İzmir and Adana bars attended the hearing.     At the hearing which started with the identification process, firstly the President of TTB Prof.Dr. Rashid Tükel made his defense.He reminded the court board that on 29 January 2018, they were taken under custody with 10 other associates for stating that the war is a public health issue. Tükel who stated that they made that statement on the occasion of September 1, World Peace day, reminded the words of Füsun Sayek on 1998; " We are doctors. We feel the responsibility to make the world a more liveable place.If there s no peace and the violence dominates the word, it is only a handful of tradesmen who have the right to be healthy." Tüzel who informed the cort board about the work TTB done on war and migration, said: "We call for peace because we advocate a healthy society.'
