You will witness progress taking place on the Parliament floor says Erdogan 2025-07-21 14:56:11   NEWS CENTER – President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, from the ruling AK Party, stated that a commission to be established in Parliament is nearing its final stage, saying, "Soon, you will witness progress taking place on the Parliament floor."   President Erdogan spoke to journalists on board the plane returning from Cyprus. Responding to a question regarding the disarmament of the Peace and Democratic Society Group, Erdogan said, "We are extremely cautious to ensure that the process is not affected by provocations. We remain on high alert against any sabotage or attempts that could undermine our goal of a ‘terror-free Turkey.’ As you know, the disarmament has begun. Our colleagues are following up closely and maintaining contacts. Regarding the commission, to my knowledge, the negotiations have reached the final stage. Soon, you will witness progress taking place on the Parliament floor."   ‘IMRALI HAS PROVIDED ALL KINDS OF SUPPORT’   Highlighting recent developments in the region, Erdogan noted, "The events in our region once again confirm the correctness of the step we have taken. Currently, Imrali has provided and continues to provide all kinds of support on this matter. This aspect of the issue is very, very important."   Erdogan then touched upon the developments in Syria, stating, "The stance of the YPG can change at any moment due to various factors. How this approach will affect the SDF, which is an extension of them, is also crucial. Recent developments show that Syrian President al-Sharaa’s position has, in my opinion, eliminated the possibility of their negative alignment. We are determined not to leave Ahmed al-Sharaa alone in Syria. We do not want Syria to be fragmented; we see Syria’s recovery as positive also for our country because Syria’s stabilization will positively affect our bilateral relations. We are witnessing the voluntary return of Syrians residing in our country to their homeland. Previously, there was despair over the idea that they would not return. Now, voluntary returns have begun. We will provide every kind of support to accelerate these returns. As these returns gain momentum, we want Syria to normalize rapidly, and for us to secure our southern border."   Erdogan added: "We have set forth a model to be an example for our region and the world. Despite the wars raging around us, we prioritize peace and stability under all circumstances. While pursuing such an active foreign policy, we cannot overlook our internal issues. A Turkey with a strong domestic front will accelerate both its social and economic development. As I have said before, the cost of terrorism to our country exceeds 2 trillion dollars. These resources will now be spent on more productive, value-adding economic investments benefiting workers, retirees, civil servants, industrialists, traders, and farmers."
