Disciplinary punishment to 14 prisoners for December 19 Massacre protest

	ISTANBUL - 14 prisoners in Marmara Closed Prison were given disciplinary punishment, citing their protest on the anniversary of the December 19 Prison Massacre.

	 

	On the anniversary of the December 19 Prison Massacre in Marmara Closed Prison, 22 prisoners were given disciplinary punishment, citing the protest.

	 

	On the anniversary of the December 19 Massacre, which the government called the "Return to Life" operation, in which more than 30 prisoners lost their lives and more than 300 prisoners were injured, the prisoners protested the massacre. Prisoners were given disciplinary punishment for singing anthems and chanting slogans. In this context, on April 30, 4 prisoners were sentenced to "deprivation of receiving visitors" for 2 months, while 18 prisoners were sentenced to "deprivation of communication and means of communication" for 2 months.

	 

	THE SENTENCE OF 8 PRISONERS WAS REVERSED

	 

	The prisoners objected to the penalties imposed by the Disciplinary Board. As a result of the objection, Silivri 2nd Execution Judgeship overturned the disciplinary sentence against 8 prisoners on the grounds that "it could not be determined whether they shouted slogans or banged on the doors because the cameras did not record sound."

	 

	Disciplinary penalties against 14 prisoners were approved.
