Footage of the police officer who broke the lawyer's arm emerged 2024-01-27 11:20:30 AMED - Footage of the police officer breaking lawyer Hakim Marol's arm in 3 places during a car park argument in Amed has emerged. In the footage, the police can be seen twisting Marol's arm with all his might in order to break it.   Hakim Marol, a lawyer from Amed Bar Association, asked the traffic police where he wanted to park his car, "Is it available for parking?" The police responded, "You go, your punishment will come later," and later resulted in the attack of 7-8 police officers, was captured on security cameras. Footage of the situation that took place on Gazi Street in Amed's Sûr district at 17:00 on December 1 was included in the investigation file carried out by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.    HE BREAKED HIS ARM AND WALKED AWAY   In the images added to the file, the argument that starts with two police officers in front of the traffic police vehicle suddenly turns into a brawl. In the recording, the number of police officers increases to 7-8 with the involvement of the surrounding plainclothes police in the attack, and it is seen that Marol was badly beaten. The traffic police officer, who started the argument, suddenly turned Marol's left arm first to the left and then to the right to accelerate with all his might, which was clearly reflected in the footage. After Marol bends over his arm and the fractures are realized, the police quickly leave the scene.   'THERE IS TORTURE'   Bar Association Vice President Mehdi Özdemir stated that the violence against his colleague "involved torture" and said: "On December 1, 2023, law enforcement officers applied violence to our lawyer colleague on Gazi Street in Sur district and a bone fracture occurred in his arm. The video contents reflected in the investigation file have determined that suspected law enforcement officers used violence, including torture, against our colleague in a way that was unnecessary and incompatible with the requirements of duty.”   NO LEGAL ACTION WAS TAKEN   Özdemir said: "In the context of the situation in question, although it was determined through images of torture and medical documents that he was injured, resulting in three fractures in his arm, protective measures such as detention and arrest were not taken against the perpetrators, and they were not administratively suspended from their duties."   'WITH THE PRIVILEGED TRIAL, THE PERPETRATORS REMAIN UNPUNISHED'   Pointing out that the policy of impunity comes into play if the perpetrators are law enforcement officers, Özdemir said: "In cases where law enforcement officers are accused of violating human rights in Turkey; with the privileged trial procedures and assurances provided for the perpetrators, the perpetrator/perpetrators are rendered unpunished and serious human rights violations are caused. In the said trial, suspected law enforcement officers must be tried within the scope of torture based on the correct definition of crime, and they must be administratively suspended from duty and punished.”
