Detention of lawyers protested: Release immediately 2023-04-25 15:56:32   NEWS CENTER - The detention of more than 100 people, including 25 lawyers, in the Amed-based investigation was protested in front of Diyarbakır and Istanbul Courthouses.   Lawyers who are members of the Amed(Diyarbakır) Bar Association made a statement in front of the Diyarbakır Courthouse regarding the detentions of more than 100 journalists, politicians, lawyers and representatives of non-governmental organizations in Amed in the morning. The Turkish Human Rights Foundation Branch (TİHV), Human Rights Association (İHD) Branch, Lawyers Association for Freedom Branch (ÖHD), Greens Left and Future Party (Green Left Party), Rights Democratic Party (HDP), Democratic Regions Party ( DBP) provincial and district organization representatives, as well as many lawyers and representatives of non-governmental organizations. Reading the statement, Deputy Chairperson of Amed Bar Association Mehdi Özdemir demanded an immediate end to unlawful detentions.   Informing that 25 lawyers have been detained so far in the investigation file conducted in Diyarbakır, Özdemir said: “Our 25 colleagues, 3 registered with the Mardin Bar, 2 with the Batman Bar, 1 with the Şanlıurfa Bar and 19 with the Diyarbakır Bar and journalists, artists and rights defenders were searched at their homes and offices, and at the Headquarters of the Lawyers Association for Freedom, and subsequently detained. The unlawful process that started with the detention of our colleagues, who conduct hearings and follow-ups at the courthouse every day with a house raid, in violation of the law and human rights, although they are in a position to testify if they are informed or summoned.”
