In a written statement regarding the helicopter crash, the following was noted: “As part of the fight against ISIS, a unit of the Anti-Terrorist Units (YAT) went to Bashure Kurdistan to share its security and military experiences and to increase its ability to fight terrorism in Northern and Eastern Syria. 15 March. In the evening of 2023, two helicopters carrying our fighters crashed due to bad weather conditions while crossing to Sulaymaniyah. 9 of our fighters, led by Şervan Kobanê, the commander of the Anti-Terrorist Units, were martyred. The Anti-Terrorist Forces sacrificed their best fighters and commanders in the war against terrorism. They took part in fierce battles from Kobanê to Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor. These forces have been trained in advanced warfare methods and are key partners of the International Coalition Against ISIS. In addition, it is actively fighting and developing its skills to strengthen the joint mechanism with different forces fighting against ISIS in the region. We extend our condolences to the families of the martyrs and to all our people. We also underline that the sacrifice shown by the martyrs will be the continuation of the resistance and the protection of our people and our sacred land. Finally, we call on the relevant authorities in the Bashure Kurdistan region to deliver the bodies of our martyrs to be buried in Northern and Eastern Syria according to values and traditions.”
