World Mother Language Day statement deemed a crime 2023-02-26 12:52:03   ŞIRNAK -Due to the statement made on the World Mother Language Day, an investigation was launched against Birca Belek Language and Culture Association Co-chairperson Cahit Akıl, alleging "driving people into hatred and enmity".   Cizre Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against Birca Belek Language and Culture Association Co-chairperson Cahit Akıl, who read the press text in the statement made on the occasion of February 21, World Mother Language Day, for "driving the public into hatred and enmity". As part of the investigation, Akıl gave a statement at the Cizre District Police Department.   Speaking about the investigation opened against him, Akıl said: “ No action was taken against those who attacked the Kurdish language. We wanted to draw attention to the attacks against the language with a press release. In our statement that day, we demanded education in Kurdish. Our citizens stuck in earthquake areas could not ask for help in their own language. In the statement we made on February 21, we said that this was also wrong. We said that this caused thousands of people to lose their lives. Talking about them is not a crime. This is a humanitarian duty."   Expressing that they will fight to the end against attacks on Kurdish, Akıl said: "Even though there are attacks and obstructions, we will continue our work. Our efforts and struggle will continue until our language becomes the language of education."
