Health professionals are prevented to go to the earthquake areas 2023-02-10 14:34:39   İZMİR - Stating that they received an answer from the Provincial Health Directorate, İzmir Medical Chamber said: "We took the answer that there is no need for now when we send 400 health workers who applied to them to the earthquake area".   The wounds of the earthquake are being healed with solidarity in 10 cities, where the earthquakes of 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude in Maraş center have caused great destruction. In his most recent statement, Vice President Fuat Oktay announced that the number of people who lost their lives increased to 17 thousand 674 and the number of injured to 72 thousand 879. It is stated that there are thousands of people under rubble that still not intervened in 10 cities.   NO NEED FOR HEALTHCARE!   On the first day, more than 400 doctors and health workers applied to the Izmir Medical Chamber to go to the earthquake areas. Izmir Provincial Health Directorate, which the chamber applied to upon requests said: "Nearly 100 volunteer health workers were sent to the region in the first two days, and stopped the dispatches. There is no need for medics in the region at the moment. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a 3rd Level Emergency for earthquake areas.   Stating that health workers from all over the country want to go to the earthquake areas, İzmir Medical Chamber President Prof. Dr. Süleyman Kaynak said: “Around 400 health workers applied to us. We shared this application list with both the Provincial Health Directorate and the Turkish Medical Association. There are nearly 100 health workers in Izmir so far. For the rest, the Provincial Health Directorate replied, 'There is no need, we will make a request if there is any'. We have conveyed to the relevant institutions that we can transfer enough health personnel to the region in terms of manpower."   MEDICINE SUPPORT   In addition, in terms of medicine needs, Kaynak said they are in contact and cooperation with the Turkish Pharmacists Association and Izmir Chamber of Pharmacists, and said: "So far, the Turkish Pharmacists' Association has started to send about 10 container pharmacies to the region.These pharmacies started to work in many cities, especially in Antakya, as of yesterday.”
