International delegation met with the families of Öcalan, Aktaş and Konar 2023-01-25 16:40:03   DİYARBAKIR - 12 members of the International Delegation Against Isolation met with the family of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, Veysi Aktaş and Ömer Hayri Konar, who are in isolation in İmralı, in Diyarbakır.   12 members of the "International Delegation Against Isolation", consisting of lawyers, journalists and academics, and 36 people from 7 different countries who came to Turkey against the isolation, came to Diyarbakır. The delegation, which will continue its meetings between January 25-27, was welcomed by the lawyers of Asrın Law Office and Lawyers Association for Freedom (ÖHD). The delegation first included Mehmet Öcalan, brother of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, who was imprisoned in İmralı, and his nephew and Peoples' Democratic Party Urfa MP Ömer Öcalan; Veysi Aktaş's mother, Faike Aktaş; Ömer Hayri met with Konar's older brother Ali Konar. In a closed-door meeting at a hotel, family members talked about the aggravated isolation conditions for their relatives.   LAW IS NOT IMPLEMENTED IN IMRALI   After the closed-door meeting, the families made a statement. Speaking about the meeting, Ömer Öcalan said: “Activists and representatives of institutions from abroad visited us as a family. We also expressed the unlawfulness practiced in Imrali. Law has been suspended on Imrali Island, and human values have been trampled on. We will overcome these human rights violations with solidarity. We know that Kurdistan and Turkey are under isolation. We have a call to the international community, the unlawfulness that lives in one part of the world also affects other countries.   INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY IS IMPORTANT   We attach great importance to this visit. We demand that the lawyers go to İmralı and meet with the friends next to Mr. Öcalan. This is our legal right. The Kurdish Question is an important question, everyone knows its importance. In order for our people to breathe easily, a meeting with Öcalan should be established. We would like to receive information about Öcalan's health. International solidarity is important for the Kurdish people, our struggle will continue around Mr. Öcalan's paradigm. The first thing to do is to lift the isolation."   'THE GATES OF IMRALI SHOULD BE OPENED'   Afterwards, Öcalan's brother, Mehmet Öcalan, took the floor and said: "What happened on Imrali Island is a dark thing for everyone, no one should accept it. If there is law in Turkey, it should be applied in Imrali, this is our demand. This situation has not been seen anywhere else in the world. It is our call to everyone, it must be acted on urgently before another day passes. Political parties other than HDP are silent on this issue, this is wrong and unacceptable. The gates of Imrali should be opened as soon as possible.”   Veysi Aktaş's mother, Faike Aktaş, said: "We want nothing but peace."   The delegation is expected to visit the Peace Mothers and MED Families of Prisoners and Convicts Legal and Solidarity Associations Federation (MED TUHAD-FED) during the day.
