The perpetrator was given a remission for "unjust provocation".   Çetin Doğan (20), who was doing his compulsory military service at the 54th Mechanized Infantry Brigade Command in Edirne, was attacked by a group of soldiers on August 15, 2021, for defending education in Kurdish. The nose and forehead of Doğan, who was beaten with the butt of an AK-47 (kalashnikov) gun, were broken. Doğan also had a crack in his ribs and bruises on his legs. Doğan received treatment for 3 days in the hospital, and in the assault report, it was stated that "his injuries were not simple enough to be overlooked with simple medical intervention". Upon Doğan's complaint, an investigation was launched against one of the attackers, Uğur Can Yaman, on the charge of "deliberate injury which has become aggravated as a result".   DOĞAN IS BOTH VICTIM AND DEFENDANT   An investigation was launched against Doğan on the allegation of "propagandising a terrorist organisation". The investigation in question was based on the statements of the soldier who battered Doğan and another soldier, who was heard as a witness, who said that Doğan said that 90 percent of the Kurds are PKK members and that he is also a PKK sympathizer".   THE PERPETRATOR WAS GIVEN A REMISSION FOR UNJUST PROVOCATION!   The indictments prepared for both investigations were accepted by the courts that they were submitted. The lawsuit filed against the perpetrator soldier Yaman regarding Doğan's injury was concluded at the Edirne 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance. Yaman, who battered Doğan and seriously injured him, was sentenced to 5 years in prison for "intentional injury". The court reduced the sentence to 1 year and 3 months with remission for "unfair provocation". Then the court reduced the sentence to 1 year and 15 days. The court postponed the sentence on the grounds that "the court has come to a conclusion that the accused will not commit a crime again".   It was learned that the trial of the case opened against Doğan on the charge of "propagandising a terrorist organisation" continues at the Edirne 2nd High Criminal Court.   MA / Ahmet Kanbal
