Protests in 5 cities for 16 imprisoned Kurdish journalist 2022-09-15 11:01:59   DİYARBAKIR - MKGP and DFG will hold protests in 5 cities in solidarity with 16 journalists who have been arrested 3 months ago.   Mesopotamia Women Journalists Platform (MKGP) and Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) will hold protests in 5 cities for 16 journalists, including DFG Co-chair Serdar Altan, who were detained on June 8 with raids on their homes in Diyarbakır and arrested on June 16. Speaking about the protest, DFG Co-chair Dicle Müftüoğlu called for participation in the protests and demanded that journalists not be left alone.   'THEY WANTED TO SILENCE THE JOURNALISTS'   Stating that journalists have been deprived of their freedom for 3 months, Müftüoğlu reminded that three months have passed since their detention and no indictments have been prepared against them, adding, “In this process, every objection to the detention of journalists was rejected by the court. The fact that the photos sent to the pro-government media by the police, the search that continued in our production companies for more than a month, showed us that they tried to silence the journalists. Another indication was that there still has no indictment against them."   'WE WILL PROTEST IN 5 CITIES'   Noting that as the DFG and MKGP, they have carried out various actions and activities for the release of their friends since the first day, and that they will protest again in 5 different cities on the occasion of the third month of detention of journalists, Müftüoğlu said, "With this statement, we will demand the release of our friends from 5 cities. We will emphasize that we are in solidarity with them. We will send cards and books to our friends after the protest. We will emphasize that we are in solidarity with them. We will also call the judicial authorities to take action. Because the investigation process of our friends has not been completed for 3 months and an indictment has not been prepared. We will shout that this obstacle to the freedom of our friends should be eliminated."   'TO PROTECT THE PRESS FREEDOM'   Stating that they will make a statement in front of the Post Offices in Diyarbakır, Istanbul, Ankara, Van and Mersin on September 16, and then send cards, letters and books, Müftüoğlu said that press professional organisations such as DİSK Basın-İş and TGS will also support their protest. Müftüoğlu said, "We call on everyone to support us and to act jointly for the freedom of press and expression of all journalists in the person of our friends."   MA / Müjdat Can
