
Four Kurdish young men subjected to torture arrested

	VAN - Three of the 4 young men who were tortured by the police in Van were arrested for "resisting the police" by the court.

	Yakup Pekel, Ersin Pekel, Mahmut Balıkçı and Cihan Şakar, who were stopped and battered by the police on March 20 in Van's Hacıbekir (Xaçort) District, were brought to court 9 days later after the police proceedings.

	3 OF THEM WERE ARRESTED

	&nbsp;

	The young men, who were brought to court yesterday evening, were referred to the court of Criminal Court of Peace on duty, with the request of arrest for "resisting the police" after the prosecution proceedings. The court ruled that Ersin Pekel be released on condition of judicial control on the grounds that he was under the age of 18, and that Yakup Pekel, Mahmut Balıkçı and Cihan Şakar were arrested.

	Şakar, Pekel and Balıkçı, who were arrested, were sent to Van Type M Prison.
