Families demand release of ill prisoner in front of Tekirdağ Prison 2022-02-21 16:25:35 TEKİRDAĞ - Families who came to visit their relatives on hunger strike against the violations in Tekirdağ Prison called for the release of ill prisoners.   Families from cities of Kurdistan gathered in front of Tekirdağ prison and made a statement for their relatives on hunger strike in Tekirdağ Prison. Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MP Oya Ersoy joined the press release in solidarity. Families, who came out of the prison after visiting their relatives, drew attention to the hunger strike.   HDP Istanbul MP Oya Ersoy stated they were there with the families to draw attention to the violations of rights in prisons, said: "A person died in this prison from neglect. Another prisoner attempted suicide. A prisoner were beaten and hospitalized.   that they came to the prison with their families for violations of rights and said, “There has been a death here in the last 1-2 months. There was one suicide attempt. There is an ill prisoner who was battered by the guards and was hospitalized.”    DEMAND FOR LIVING CONDITIONS TO BE BETTER   Reminding that the request of the families, prisoners and their attorneys to meet with the prison administration was rejected, Ersoy said, "At the moment, 12 prisoners are on an indefinite and non-rotating hunger strike here. They have only one demand; to meet with the prison administration and settle this issue. The demands of the prisoners are entirely about the conditions of life in prison and humane treatment. They want an interlocutor. The duty of the prison administration and the Ministry of Justice is to ensure the safety of the prisoners here. There are a lot of violations of rights like ill-treatment and torture.   THE GOVERNMENT'S DUTY   Stating that the Ministry of Justice is responsible for the life safety of every person put in prison, Ersoy said, “There are seriously ill prisoners in Turkish prisons and we encounter the death of at least one ill prisoner almost every week. It is the duty of the state to stop these deaths."    'RELEASE ILL PRISONERS'   Stating that her son is in prison for 17 years now, Aslıhan Yıldırım, mother of prison Mehmet Yıldırım, said, “He had 4 surgeries. Government needs to do something about this. I come here to visit him and I am also ill. The government must release the ill prisoners. This is our only demand."
