Şener: Those who ban parties will suffer the consequences, not those who are banned 2021-03-18 11:44:56 ANKARA -  One of the founders of AKP, Abdüllatif Şener said, "Those who hope for the closure of the parties have never got any results in their own interest. They have always put the parties that support these processes in a difficult situation. They were eventually left out of the parliament themselves."   The ban decisions of 28 political parties so far with the decision of the Constitutional Court (AYM) have last came to the agenda with the closure of AKP back in 2008. In 2008, the Supreme Court filed a closure case against the AKP with the indictment it prepared on the grounds that "it has become the focus of acts against secularism". In the indictment against the AKP a request of political ban were made against 71 AKP MPs including Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Abdullah Gül for 5 years. As a result of the case file AKP was deprived of Treasury aid instead of being banned. After this date, no new closure case was filed against political parties.   ŞENER: THIS IS A POLITICAL PROCESS   CHP Konya Deputy Abdüllatif Şener, one of the founders of the AKP and who knows the party closely, evaluated his attitude towards banning political parties and the AKP's transition to be the party that bans other parties. Şener who is engaging in politics for 30 years at the parliament told that these are not legal processes but political processes. Şener said: "The parties that dominate the parliament develop and implement a number of strategies for both the deputies of the opposition parties and the parties themselves in order to gain a more advantageous position in the elections ahead of them. This is usually done by using the judiciary. And as far as I can see the judiciary operates according to the political conjuncture. In these 30 years, I have observed closely that the judiciary functions according to the political conjuncture in all political cases."     'THIS PROCESS WON'T WORK IN FAVOUR OF ERDOĞAN'   Underlining that this process will not work in favour of Erdoğan no matter what they do, Şener said: "Banning political parties have never worked for those who ban parties. On the contrary, those who ban parties suffer the consequences of these actions themselves. They were even left outside the parliament as a result. Banning parties will not work in favour of them in the elections. It may even cost them their own votes. But they might have other agendas."   'IT IS MANAGED BY THE SAME ACTORS'   Noting that the processes against the HDP are managed by the same actors, Şener said: "The fact that an MP was stripped of from his status as MP the same they a closure case was opened against the party is an indication that both these processes are managed by the same actors. And we have to say that stripping of the status of an MP only shows that the Spokesperson of the Parliament strips himself of from his status. AKP -MHP alliance thşnks that they do not have enough votes to save themselves in the next election and they want the HDP votes for themselves. Could they be hoping that HDP voters will vote for them if their party is closed or do they have other agendas, I don't know. But he must be believing that as a result of his actions, HDP voters will vote for him.     MA / Diren Yurtsever
