Durna: Pro-government media remaining silent about the resignation indicates a legitimacy crisis 2020-11-09 15:03:16 ANKARA -  Evaluating the decision of the resignation announced by the Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak on his Instagram account, Assoc. Dr. Tezcan Durna said, "This actually seems to be good for the government in terms of propaganda, but also shows that the government is in a serious legitimacy crisis." The pro-government media is still silent about the resignation of  Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak despite the passing 17 hours. Dismissed Peace Academic from Ankara University Faculty of Communication Assoc. Prof. Tezcan Durna evaluated the resignition for Mesopotamia Agency (MA).   'PUBLIC BEING KEPT IN THE DARK'   Noting that the resignition of Albayrak was covered by a few opposition media outlets, Durna said: "And the target audience of these newspapers, the numbers of sales, readers is limited. And the government is doing its best to further limit the access of these journalists, investigating, detaining and arresting them. The government is trying to smother the right to recieve news. Public is being kept in the dark.   'CONTROLLED MEDIA UNABLE TO MAKE NEWS'   Stating that he can not get the news from the 'mainstream media' regarding the news about an earthquake, or the resignition of a key minister, Durna said: "Government aimed to use the media as a tool for propaganda when it created this controlled, instructed media. But that media is now not even able to do that. Because they can not write anything without getting permission from the government. "This actually seems to be good for the government in terms of propaganda, but also shows that the government is in a serious legitimacy crisis."   Emphasizing that Albayrak has resigned from Instagram by ignoring this convention, despite the thematic separation of social media, Durna said, "Nobody knows the truth about this resignation. No one knows if he really resigned. Some say he was hacked. Some says it was a conspiracy. But it is not possible to learn the truth of it. It can not be confirmed, nor denied for 17 hours. This is a very critical ministry. Foreign currency is on the rise. The head of the Central Bank was dismissed a couple of days ago. The rumour is that the new head of the Central Bank is a more obedient one. Despite all of these, no one made any statements. It is obvious that the government can not manage politics anymore. What happened last night clearly shows that mainstream media is destroyed."   Durna continued: "The hands of opposition media is also tied. There is no way to reach the right sources from the government. And if you do, there is no way of knowing they have the information or if they are telling the truth. This indicates that the government has collapsed. In a country where the people can not recieve news, there will be rumours, speculations and whispers, which will make everything worse. If the government aims to maintain their continuity, I think this is a wrong strategy."     MA / Eylem Akdağ
