Kobané investigation: 17 HDP members arrested, including Kars Mayor Ayhan Bilgen 2020-10-02 10:45:40 ANKARA - 17 polticians from HDP were arrested within the scope of the 'Kobané investigation'.  17 of 20 politicians who were detained on September 25 were arrested in the operation against members of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Central Executive Committee (MYK) and former deputies within the scope of the "Kobanê investigation" conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.   17 ARRESTS   Names of those arrested are: “HDP Kars Municipality Co-Mayor Ayhan Bilgen, HDP MYK member Alp Altınörs, HDP Foreign Relations Commission member Nazmi Gür, former deputy Ayla Akat Aka, BDP former Co-Chair and MP Emine Ayna, HDP former MYK members Bircan Yorulmaz, Berfin Özgü Köse, Dilek Yağ, Can Memiş, Günay Kubilay, Bülent Parmaksız, Pervin Oduncu, İsmail Şengün and Cihan Erdal, former HDP Treasurer Zeki Çelik, HDP RTÜK member Ali Ürküt and former deputy Prof. Dr. Emine Beyza Üstün. "   İmralı Delegation Member and former HDP MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, HDP former MYK member Gülfer Akkaya and HDP former Deputy Altan Tan were released with a judicial control decision.   ATTORNEYS WEREN'T ALLOWED IN COURT   The head of the courtboard read the verdict without calling the lawyers into the courtroom. Lawyers and members of parliament in the courthouse protested the situation by shouting "defense will not be silenced" and "HDP will not be silenced."   The politicians were arrested due to a suspicion of fleeing according to the decision. The decision also stated that the arrest decision was in place.   VIOLENCE AGAINST LAWYERS AND MPS   After the announcement of the decision, the lawyers wanted to deliver their belongings to the clients. However, the police, who set up barricades in the courthouse corridor, physically intervened the lawyers. Upon this, the members of parliament wanted to cross the police barricade and reach the arrested politicians. Police used physical violence against lawyers and members of parliament.
