Elik: We will take different actions if the amendment is not abandoned 2020-06-26 14:49:20   MARDİN - Mardin Bar President İsmail Elik, one of the bar presidents who joined the March for Defense, stated that the defense is trying to be silenced and taken under control, said that they will take different actions if the amendment is not abandoned.     Bar Presidents marching to Ankara from more than 60 cities, demanded the amendment proposal of the AKP MHP government must be abandoned.  Mardin Bar President İsmail Elik who stated that they encountered some difficulties along the way, said they will pursue different action plans if the proposal is not withdrawn. Stating that the amendment aims to control the bars, Elik said: "A regulation that does not militate in the favour of the defense, is also not in the favour of the people."   WHAT WOULD THE POLICE WHO PROHIBITED THE BAR PRESIDENTS, DO TO NORMAL CITIZENS?    Stating that with the marched they showed that they are against the elimination of the principles of the state of law, Elik said: "We have recieved very positive reactions during the march. They increased our morale and showed us how right we are." Elik pointed out that they encountered police barricades at the enterance of Ankara, said they were prevented from getting to the capital city of Turkey and that this was a violation of the constitution. Elik said: "As a result we have encountered a situation that violated the constitution. The right to a peaceful demonstration is a constitutional right. Now think about it, What would the police who prohibited the bar presidents from marching, do to normal citizens? It is not hard to imagine what violations of rights the citizens of this country face. This is also an intimidation to the citizens. They say 'Look what we can do to the bar presidents. You normal citizens should never pursue actions like this.'   THEY KICKED US UNDER THEIR SHIELDS   Elik stated that they were pushed with police shields and the police kicked them under their shields, even some police officers punched them if they got the chance.   THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING   Stating that their march was for the withdrawal of the draft law presented on May 19 and June 1 and this is the beginning of the use of their democratic rights, Elik said if this amendment plan is not abandoned, then there will be different actions taken by the bar associations.     MA /  Ömer Akın
